New statement from Foo Fighters
"AS WE SAY GOODBYE TO THE MOST DIFFICULT AND TRAGIC YEAR THAT OUR BAND HAS EVER KNOWN, WE ARE REMINDED OF HOW THANKFUL WE ARE FOR THE PEOPLE THAT WE LOVE AND CHERISH MOST, AND FOR THE LOVED ONES WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US.
FOO FIGHTERS WERE FORMED 27 YEARS AGO TO REPRESENT THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC AND A CONTINUATION OF LIFE AND FOR THE PAST 27 YEARS . OUR FANS HAVE BUILT A WORLDWIDE COMMUNITY, A DEVOTED SUPPORT SYSTEM THAT HAS HELPED US ALL GET THROUGH THE DARKEST OF TIMES TOGETHER A PLACE TO SHARE OUR JOY AND OUR PAIN, OUR HOPES AND FEARS, AND TO JOIN IN A CHORUS OF LIFE TOGETHER THROUGH MUSIC. WITHOUT TAYLOR, WE NEVER WOULD HAVE BECOME THE BAND THAT WE WERE-AND WITHOUT TAYLOR, WE KNOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT BAND GOING FORWARD.

I figured they would keep going as a band because Taylor would want that but very nice to have such a touching official statement.
I just saw this. Little conflicted but had a twinge of excitement too. It will never be the same, but I’ve missed them! ❤️
I’m delighted in many ways but also sad and nervous in others. It’s never going to be the same and I’m not sure about it.
I am surprised how quickly it's been said that'll they'll continue without Taylor but I also suspect an album may have been recorded or at least written as this does seem to be Dave's outlet for trauma.
It’s nice that it has a matter of fact tone. They handled everything well. Took some time and honored Taylor now moving forward in the new year. 👍

I get it, it doesn’t sit wholly comfortably right now.
I don't feel it's been rushed (announcing that they're continuing). I'd imagine it will be a while before there's any hint of new music/shows so this is just the 'heads up' for now.
Maybe not rushed but quicker than expected I thought it would be at least a year or more before anything was said with any sort of continuation of the band. This sounds like they'll be back next year.
Great way to start the New Year. If they wanted to pass on some joy and smiles,it worked.
Is it time to speculate who gets the full time gig on the drums?
Was it answered for us at the 2 tribute shows?

This is the most likely scenario
I would love for Dave to drum the album(s) but I’m a bit conflicted if Freese is the best for the FF. Did not like his groove in the tribute shows - of course he’s a seasoned pro, probably would get better after a while.
I think Josh wasn't trying to show off I think he was up there to just honour Taylor. If he got the gig then he could start putting some of his own flare to the tracks. He's a phenomenal drummer but he knows when to play and when to hold back.
What I meant is that the groove in the FF is so distinct, first DG with his thing and then T - both have really personal styles and grooves. It’s not about being able to play the tunes correctly, it’s about getting the right feel.
IMO Shane was the only one to achieve that with the My Hero Wembley performance. Having him get the gig would be really weird though.
Oh I know. I'm saying that if he got the gig full time I reckon he'd be able to bring his own style and groove as I don't think I'd want it to be a Taylor drum-karaoke set
Would probably be refreshing for him - the last time I’ve been actually interested in his playing was when first heard him w/ Infectious Grooves way back when… He’s a session guy, sounds like a session guy - not a drummer with his own thing. That’s his job and he’s the best in the world in what he’s doing.
Too bad Rufus was such a carbon copy of T in every way. He played great but seeing him as a permanent member would be really really weird, too.
It was a nice surprise, I did wonder where it was going… and then breathes a sigh of relief!
I thought we wouldn’t hear anything until after T’s anniversary but I guess if they’ve made a decision then NY is a good time to put it out there. Plus I think it’s a thank you to the fans and just letting us know something is happening. It’s just so nice to hear from them and sparked some excitement after what was a super flat NYE.

I saw that mentioned on Twitter just now, someone on 606 Facebook said they saw something on a message board from that famous “someone in the know” person!
This account (some guy from Sweden FYI) then covers himself if nothing materalises by saying that it doesn't necessarily mean anything will be recorded. I've seen too many supposed insiders waltzing into fan groups claiming they know for sure that this or that drummer is the new guy, and they'll tour starting on x date, to put any stock in it. Seems like overenthusiastic fans.

Guess it won’t be long until the drummer is announced.
I still think it'll be a while before an official announcement. Might come out X will be playing with them but I could see it being a while before they're announced as an official member bit like Rami

Yup this is what I meant - will probably be announced who’ll drum. Different than being the drummer.
It's why I think it'll definitely be Josh Freese because those actually know his career will just be like oh yeah he's that session guy and I feel like that doesn't instantly give off the vibe of having replaced Taylor
Yes I’m also pretty certain it’s gonna be him.
Not too enthusiastic about his playing myself but I’m really happy for him if he gets the gig - not much left for a freelance musician to achieve after landing a gig like this one!
