There's no song registered by the name 'The Same Ways' in BMI and the fact they haven't released a physical single with B-side in over a decade should be a big clue.
As I confirm my love for the new album again, I had the thought today that perhaps the band got "inspired" by sharing the stage with The Struts. I think their groovy swagger may have been a spark for Dave, whether he recognizes it or not.
Agreed, but I wouldn't put it past them to put some sort of vinyl out some months down the line like we have had as follow ups to albums in the past such as Medium Rare, Saint Cecilia and Songs from the Laundry Room etc. I might remove the bogus entry on Wikipedia myself.
As much as I am a Struts fan (although i'm not loving the last album but still hope to see them live someday) i'm not seeing the inspiration from them. This is clearly a retro disco in the sense that it is a love letter to the 80s pop, rock and even hard rock (clearly homages to lennon, lemmy, bowie, srv, prince and even bee gees). On the other hand, Green Day was clearly inspired by the struts (they even gave them credits in "still breathing" because it was insprided by "could have been me") and even the last GD album (FOAM) was produced by butch walker (young & dangerous producer).
I hope not. Shame Shame and No son of mine are ok songs for me but are far from the bests of MAM. They should play more Waiting on a War, Cloudspotter, Making a Fire and Love Dies Young. In fact, i would push for those 3 songs to become singles, at least 2 of them. Killer songs IMO
Ok so about the follow up.. where did you get that? it's just speculation? because i've seen all the interviews and nothing was mentioned, they're still pushing this album to the top. Also, they said they were just rehearsing, not recording, but you might be up to something...
The interview was with Corden and they said they were just rehearsing ready for when the world opens back up but they seem to be there a lot "rehearsing" for a tour that is probably the better part of a year away.
I'm just speculating widely.
The track by track they did on YouTube is where I think Dave saying which tracks will be part of the live shows
Making A Fire is such an obvious single, I enjoy Shame Shame and I respect that that is what they chose to release first but it should have been Making A Fire.
I am also really surprised they haven’t had a proper livestream concert since the album came out. All the cool kids are doing it
Second this. Also if you check Spotify, Making a fire stats are crazy. More than 5.5 million streams. Compared to the singles... (Shame Shame 13 M, War 9 M, Son 7). To put it into context with other huge recent rock singles: The Pretty Reckless ft. Tom Morello's And so it went (almost 3 million). Weezer's All my favorite songs 4.8 M. Green Day's Here comes the shock 1.2 M. The Offsrping's Let the bad times roll 1.8 M, Greta van fleet's heat above 2.3 M. Kings of Leon's Echoing 3 M. Of course you can argue it's the first song in the album and that's why but idk. When i first heard the album it was the song that hooked me way more than the singles. I hope they push it, it can be big and besides that, it's a great song.
About the "rehearsing part"... i think you might be up to something. After all, when was the last time they used their studio to record an album? Maybe with the pandemic it is the best time to go back. I do hope they change the producer though. I love Kurstin (best rock producer nowadays IMO) but i think they should change it for their own good. After all, they always do this, even with the bests. Butch Vig: 2 Albums, Gil Norton 2 albums, Kurstin 2 albums. Nick Raskulinecz 2 albums. Adam Kasper 2 albums. Maybe they can bring new blood into the table (Suzy Shinn) or some old blood that never worked with them (Rick Rubin).
I could see them producing it themselves this time around. I'd also keep Rubin a million miles away from them as that's although that is seemingly how he produces these days from afar.
Making a Fire being the first track on the album will be a big factor in its decent streaming numbers, pretty much everyone will listen to first track of an album, not everyone will make it to the end if they decide it's not their thing.
I guess so, part of the problem is by the time they get to play live the album may have been superseded! Depends if Dave is in a writing mood by now, if he’s got bored of making lasagne...
They could do a live session from 606 with fan interaction, that would be nice!
But Spotify’s “foo archive” or whatever theyre called could be a good hint. I believe someone here said Dave mentioned somewhere that it still is an ongoing thing.

Interesting, I’d love a b-side, but it is most likely just something someone made up

I confirm I love it.... can't wait to hear them all live! I'm sorry but they are going to have to play them all....
Yeah but by the sounds of it Dave has already decided War, Shame and No son of mine will be the only ones to survive long enough to be played live.
I think they're already recording the follow up. As I saw an interview recently where they said they're in the studio everyday
Agreed, they're going to have to

Yea he said the same thing on Medicine at Midnight radio too, if i remember it correctly

I always wish them getting back together with Adam Kasper when there’s rumors of recording .
Yup. That's why most artists put the singles right up there. Which brings me to the original conclusion. They should make it s Single. It's 🔥

The lack of a livestream since the album dropped just adds to suspicions. They're busy recording new music or a Beegees / Gibb Brothers Tribute record
~0:20 ''and then rehearse and record all day long''
Making a Fire is just so good.
also really enjoy Cloudspotter, Waiting on A War, Love Dies Young.
Think it’s really nice to hear such different melodies from them without losing the classic Foo signature.
The Trini (Lopez, the Gibson guitar model) he always uses for album tracks is gone from the wall hanger behind him..
Nice!
i love it when you guys notice things like that
It's been down for a couple of months, I think...
Has he sold it?
Could be, this one’s the first where I notice it’s gone though.
The guitar he’s recorded all albums since TINTL? Yeah I guess so, probably needed the money.
😟
I wonder if The Same Ways is a song for the vault?? Would love to hear a b-side from them.
The more I listen to Medicine at Midnight the more I like it, the album reminds me of TINLTL.
Trini’s still there, worry not.
Minute 14ish

But the BMI fact does kinda trashes my faith.
