I mentioned it earlier, but the verse progression in "Chasing Birds" is basically the same as the chorus to "Woman", just played a half-step lower. Hence the similarity some are catching!
I get a TINTL-vibe from this, even though the music is somewhat different.
The album does not sound forced at all, DG sings better than in ages without trying to ’rock’ 100% of the time, the songs are what they are without them being bloated into something else than they naturally are - just like TINTL.
TINTL is by far my favourite FF album, must have listened to it a thousand times, I’ve been waiting for the vibe in FF releases ever since, this one has it.
Thanks! I just went back and read your earlier comment and another one about this. Must’ve missed them while reading through everything on release day. I appreciate your response and earlier insights. Good to know I’m not the only one who picked up on that.
Totally agree on “Chasing Birds”’and “Woman” by John Lennon. I hadn’t read this comment until after listening to the album a few times. I totally picked up on that same sound/vibe from the song.
All good! And I agree that the production aspect is a bit Beatle-esque, which probaly contributes as well.
I have to say that it's growing on me on every listen too. I'd probably rank it up in the top half somewhere, even though the vibe is a bit different from the other songs.
Great observation and comparison! I feel the same way and am very happy I feel that way. It is such an easy to listen to record, like TINLTL, which features more space and music and less screaming and dropped tuning. I love those, but this music is a lift.
Hello! I'm new to this location but was part of the old Foo Fighters Message Board many many years ago. I wanted to share a kid I found on youtube. I have no idea who he is but he has released the greatest review of a band or LP ever.
Someone get this over to Dave Grohl's twitter or whatever because indeed this is the greatest LP review ever. (He doesn't know the LP yet). Mine hasn't arrived yet either little man. But, to the child's credit the first LP is Foo Fighters and the second is The Colour and the Shape and the 2011 LP Wasting Light is his favorite with 2014 (being Sonic Highways) and 2017 being Concrete and Gold.
Foos currently have three singles on the UK mid-week Top 100 singles chart: Making a Fire (39), Waiting on a War (42) and Shame Shame (54). Let's hope they are on the chart proper on Friday. Get streaming ! The album is also No. 1 on the midweek album chart and let's hope that is still there Friday too! It's currently outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined so looks likely! https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/foo-fighters-chasing-fifth-uk-number-1-album-with-medicine-at-midnight__32389/
'Making A Fire' is currently #8 on Spotify's Top 10 Global Song Debuts chart - which may be due in part to it being the opening track but the fact that it's pure fire has a lot to do with it!
The interview where Dave talks about what tracks he thinks wil be played in the live sets just shows to me he's not always the best judge of character what songs are the ones people would want to hear.
i think it's from a year of sharing the music with not only his friends and family but people from the record label, press, fellow music artists etc...sooooooooo i think sitting with these songs for so long he's developed a good idea on the tunes people are enjoying the most 🤷♂️

That's an unlisted video that's only viewable to people with the link so I imagine they'll be made available at some point publicly

The strongest song on the album IMO
It's an interesting choice, I certainly don't see it as 'single' material. Probably need to listen to it a bit more.
I’ve got a terrible ear for hits, a song will probably totally fail as a single if I like it..
You guys know what?
Figured out why I like the album -

Making A Fire...
If you bought the Japanese first press CD - it looks like your postcard maybe just grew in size.
not 100 % confirmed but pretty likely this will ship out for free...

Stacked Actors is literally the lowest tuning they've dropped for a song, right ☺️🤘
Are they like general beer mats? They look a little thicker in the images I've seen.
will let you know when mine arrive.
I haven't had a dispatch notice yet for my new purchase for the coasters, so you may know before me.
The beer mats are quite thin, pretty standard beer mats really, unlike coasters you’d have for hot drinks 🍺

So he does know his 'catalog' but he doesn't have the new LP yet. And come on 9 tracks? HelllooOO it's not an EP!. https://i.postimg.cc/L6fNWZF3/Screenshot-2021-02-07-Foo-fighters-medicine-at-midnight-album-review-You-Tube.png
Awesome! To all the parents out there, much respect.

Making a fire should be a single
Agree. Most obvious single on the record.

Well if you look at the coasters I posted... I'm trying really really hard to not say something lol

Cheers. Fingers crossed they'll come soon.
Making a Fire has gone into my top spot for favourite song. After a few listens through, it's the one I'm always still humming afterwards.
Believe so, Drop A is one of the lowest guitar tunings full stop.
The postcard is a little bigger than the cd, definitely not this big!
Nice

Such a joyous song. Look at all of those smiles!!
