@Beto I really enjoy Love Dies Young, the disco guitar (that’s how I’m gonna describe it) is so fresh sounding! But I absolutely get your point about the chorus. when i played it for my sister she immediately started workshopping the chorus and came up with like 4 filler phrases that could have been used instead of the repeat before the song was even over 🤣
Same, I would've gone along with that if they hadn't performed it on SNL that night and he enunciated the right lyric. First time around, I was thinking, "Is...is Dave coming out? Is that what's happening?"
Difficult to tell. I'm definitely more excited for this release, but I have half a mind that's because of everything's that's going on and I'm looking for positive stuff I can enjoy. I feel like there's a lot more press around it this time.
I remember being back on the old board and that Radio one thread used to be like a hub of excitement for like Wasting Light etc. And I didn’t really feel the buzz of C&G although I liked the album overall. Maybe it’s like a combination of age, what was going on at work/in life at the time... but I feel like the buzz was back with this one
Not sure about that per se - I think as you allude to this album hype is situational and everyone is looking for something positive or new to get their teeth into.
C&G we had a week long Foo pub in London and a special o2 launch show for example - there was a lot of hype around for that record at the time.
ah yea of course. i guess something like a zoom chat on Radio X seems like a deal...when there's been fuck all else going on......but compared with past album promo weeks, its probably pale in comparison.
I’ve listened through 3 times now. Standout songs are Cloudspotter and Chasing Birds.
Unfortunately a lot of the rest of it is pretty forgettable right off the bat for me. I can’t get into the backing vocal stuff at all and was immediately turned off making a fire for that reason. Some of the songs feel like real filler that will never see the light of day again (something the Foos have suffered from a lot over the years and I say this objectively whilst they still are and always will be my favourite band). The title track sounds like Queen era HOT SPACE (as I said months ago). Love does young sounds like something the killers or other pop/rock act would release.
I’m hoping it will be a grower for me but I’m rating it as very average so far and not as good as C&G.
I fully expect to be criticised for being critical on here too.
Wow this is a very fun sounding album. Lots of dance vibes, they weren't just bullshitting us. Some super different feels for them. The Medicine at Midnight track has some Touch soundtrack vibes, anyone else getting that?
Also very 70s rock as others have said. Dave and Taylor seem to have been fighting the urge to go full classic rock for a few albums now. They seem to have done it here.
I like it, but I know my purist FF 19 year old self would be hating this right now. I'm much more open minded now, life is better! 😂
@BigCol nah you can criticise it all you want. I like it so far. It's fresh and new and isn't stale. Ask me again in a month and I'll be able to tell you if it gets better with more listens or not or if the shine wore off.
I get what you mean about the backing vocals though. I'd really like to see Chris and Nate do more backing vocals as we know they can sing.
I feel like this album is a love letter to Dave's record collection/ musical heroes.
I think that's part of it the other way for me, none of that stuff was accessible to me and I think I felt a bit like the whole thing was just, not directed at me? So it wasn't really something I got excited about.
OK... Just finishing listening to it. The only song that really blew me away was Cloudspotter. Making A Fire is OK and the title track I think COULD grow on me.
Overall I'd say it's an interesting album... And I can see it draws from diverse influences but... I dunno man. As a whole it just ain't hitting the spot.
Chris sing? Are you serious about that? lol He can sing and totally should be doing some backing vocals. Also, its fine if you like Sky, I just don't and I'm not one to force my opinion on others when it comes to Foos.
Given it a full run through this morning. Didn't realise we'd already heard almost half of the album already! Think it will take a few listens for me. I still love Waiting on a War. 😁
Yeah Chris should do more backing vocals on the albums. I know he can sing. Love Chris' side projects. Nate should be mic'd up for shows. Lieutenant was a great album. My point was they should work with the voices in the band rather than these added backing vocals. Taylor is the only other band member who's vocals have largely been utilised on the Foo records.
Pat didn't do backing vocals on TCATS? I thought he did. Yeah, they really should be using the others in the band first. Still the album is good, but it feels like by the time they get to the 12th album, there will be 30 people touring just to perform the songs.

Wow! Definitely worth the wait.
Making a Fire & Cloudspotter are especially stand out for me so far but I’m only half way through my second go through 😇
I thought that was the lyric for ages, not just you 😁
there feels there's been more buzz around this album release than Concrete & Gold?
perhaps. i know i was a lot busier around the time that album was released compared to this one...that might be why im thinking that 🤷♂️

I'm sticking with the glitter line as I like it.
Also @lilmanjs I think "Sky is a neighborhood" is great. I honestly loved Concrete and Gold as a whole.

Yeah I agree.
Yeah I think this too.

Waiting on a War has really grown on me too. 😌
I haven't heard the whole album - but it's gonna be hard to beat for me.
Still I always hope my fav single is not my fav song...
We're not old 🤣
Plus we don't have any gigs to get excited about so we can channel it all into the new album!
I like Waiting On A War from the first listen, I think Dave does those kinds of songs very well.
Wow! Cloudspotter and Holding Poison are the two songs that really stuck out after the first listen.
Yeah he does. You’re right
Woo, my CD just arrived 😃

Actually love dies young reminds me of Bloc Party. With the intro of Now I’m here.
Once Dave appears on the one show we’ll know it’s a big deal.
meh 🤷🏻♀️

EDIT: changed my word repetition
Pales in comparison...
to having a band storm your garage for example...
we need more of that - now we know they literally knock this shit out in a bath 🤣🤣

Pat used to do backing vocals live during the early days. He could certainly chip in too.
Foo Fighters and the 606 street Band. I think the next album will be their Born to Run album
