I feel this was the most exciting era, as a young fan...we had the rocking debut, then they hit us with this fresh new sound, mega hits, tours, fun music videos. Fucking brilliant.
I still remember the day I picked it up on CD from HMV. Skipped school and listened to it in a park all afternoon. 😍
Their second best album in my opinion but still a classic. I remember my sister wearing out her radio station promotional copy our uncle-in-law gave her as part of a huge batch of albums from the record label building he worked in. My copy is scratched to hell and back but it still plays just fine. Still remember when I finally figured out the My Hero drums and how accomplished that made me feel.
This was HUGE for me too! I loved the first album, but still thought it would be a one-off in terms of quality. But once this came out, I was 100% all in & hooked!
I still find this pretty fucking heartbreaking though... I've heard more than enough of William on FF songs to know there is no way more of his input was perfectly usable - he just didn't sound like Dave, and Dave's head was in a pretty messed up place for so many reasons. It might have been different - but I'd really like to have heard that "never to be" version of the album.
"Goldsmith – who says he recorded 96 takes for one song, and spent 13 hours working on another – would end up with just two credits on the final recording: album opener Doll and Up in Arms. "
I remember my CD being so thrashed that it would always skip on Enough Space which really pissed me off as I loved that song, especially going into February Stars. That's the good thing about Spotify I guess!
Late to the celebration on this one - also my fav album of all time. CD skipped in some spots from all the love it got. My first concert ever was on this tour and I have foolishly been living in the bubble of this era in my mind ever since.

This video, this album, this summer, this year. Too many musical memories. Love it.

My forever favorite 💕💕
And sadly - any recognition of the date by the band has been rendered pretty much impossible.
In other related news - the most recent 2011 TCATS vinyl repressing now seems sold out everywhere...
and sealed copies have been selling for well over $100. So original 97 versions are now worth who knows how much more.

At least someone remembered it. https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-colour-and-the-shape-at-25-how-foo-fighters-second-album-took-dave-grohl-out-of-kurt-cobains-shadow
Well spotted - and a really good piece too.
