Here is the far better recording of their first pre-announced show. Sounds very good.

Thanks for sharing Simon! Not sure I've heard this newer source before.
Thanks from me too - I've never heard this version...
BUT...
which one of yours is this using?
Because arguably here in this YT clip the sound across the range is even better at volume.
It has either been at least "quite well" edited, or, is a third source. Indeed the track times are not the same when aligned.
And it's kinda important as this is the FIRST EVER show known to have a recording that's out in the real world (though we know Dave now has "the tape" from Marine).
What is really most interesting about this YT source though is that for better or worse it has a mix that rather emphasises the drums.
Which is Will - live in very first (recorded) outing of brand new songs etc.
If there were problems they should be present right? Then maybe give him time to nail them and get them right?
To my ear they DO NOT EXIST.
Maybe clearer in this YT edit - but he nails the Floaty ending. Even more clearly nails the Stick ending, and has been utterly frenetic in both songs. He does simplify like literally three tom fills over both songs I sampled by about a total of 4 or 5 tom tom fill beats missed. But he is CLEARLY pounding those skins hard and yet not at all without finesse.
7.30 - check 30 secs to the end of Stick at 8.04.
I think I can safely say I've listened to the first album as much as most people or more - in all versions.
If a drummer can do that on the third outing in March, I think the evidence is there that he wasn't dumped based on inability. And based on style it's SO close (at that stage) I can't really fault that either.
Based on "force"in terms of aggression, I think he possibly started to show signs right here in this Portland show of blowing Dave out of the water (let alone getting more so over time) ...
I seriously wonder more than ever what the fuck went down as he was as good or better on the 3rd March 1995 IMHO.
Yeah that is the same recording for sure, just tweaked/remastered.
