They made it to be fun and they seemed to be pretty happy with it. Not everyone’s jam, but it is what it is. I enjoyed the experiment. I hope they keep taking risks.
Anyway, really excited to hear whatever this new stuff is, too!
TBH, I think most of their album titles could probably be described as at least sorta cheesy. I believe that There Is Nothing Left to Lose is earnest, but it's also a little cheesy. If a band you didn't like called a record In Your Honor or Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace, you'd probably want to roll your eyes at it.
I think it's a reference to Crown Royal Black. You keep the bottle in the freezer and have a couple shots around bedtime. The only reason I'm not more sure is I don't get why that wouldn't have been part of the press cycle but I've heard Dave call that midnight medicine or something to that effect a long ass time ago.
edit: obviously the song probably means more than that but the second i heard the title, i remembered the phrasing
The title MEDICINE AT MIDNIGHT is not directly about medicine, but about the feeling that something is missing, that one is simply not satisfied. This feeling that one needs something, before going to sleep, the song fell on me when I went to bed one evening. I just couldn't sleep and wondered why. What am I missing? A drink? A book? Do I have to go out again and run around the block? I'm an insomniac, a restless person, a terribly bad sleeper. I just have too much energy - always. So the question is, what is the medicine that makes me sleep?
Thats translated from German btw - hence it being a little clunky.
I love M@M, except Love Dies Young so I tend to skip it which is handy as it's the last track. Cloudspotter, War, M@M are all great songs. I wonder how many from the album will get to stay on the set list, luckily we got to hear a few live at Geelong but UK fans will have missed out. You kind of feel a bit sorry for the album, first the pandemic and then losing Taylor means it some of the tracks didn't get played live that much.
I also read/heard in an interview it's about a slug of midnight medicine 🥃
The snippet from the new track sounds more old school rock, can't wait to hear more!
But Here We Are is the new album from Foo Fighters, and marks the bands return after a year of staggering losses, personal introspection and bittersweet remembrances. A brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters have endured recently, But Here We Are is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family. Courageous, damaged and unflinchingly authentic, the album opens with “Rescued,” the first of 10 songs that run the emotional gamut from rage and sorrow to serenity and acceptance, and myriad points in between.
But Here We Are is in nearly equal measure the 11th Foo Fighters album and the first chapter of the band’s new life. Sonically channeling the naivete of Foo Fighters’ 1995 debut, informed by decades of maturity and depth, But Here We Are is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago, a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life.
Definitely sounds like it's not Taylor drum tracks. I had wondered if this would be material recorded in the down time over COVID and if anything Dave might go in an redo some lyrics or they'd tag on a couple of tracks freshly recorded

There’s a new tease!!!
I just thought this - the tease bit kinda reminds me of the way the built up Wasting Light. I like it!
yea its more rocking than anything off Medicine At Midnight 🤘
I’m still sure the album title Medicine at Midnight is a joke from the band. You know, the cheesiest title they could think of.
"This is happening now"
Still not quick enough for me 🤣 Yeah, I'm very excited.

IMO the album had great stuff on it, Making a Fire, Clouspotter and Love Dies Young in particular.
To me, if taking risks becomes a value of its own it speaks of being bored of actually making music.
ANYWAY, cannot wait for the new stuff to come out!

Kinda. Sorta. Maybe.
And what kind of "medicine" is it?

Hrm, that makes me a little more confident.
Trying to look back ground old emails to see if I can find the phrasing lol
Hope you find something!

Produced by Greg Kurstin and FF (from the press release)
So all new material, by the sounds of it
I tend to use Youtube Music, it's working alright on there.
Some longer songs on side 2? I'm excited for new music but it's going to be emotional.
