I like it. It's nice to hear a 25 year old band release fresh music, rather than the same thing they've always put out. I'm sure there will be some great rock tracks on the album too, but this was a nice surprise
I will say, that though I do like the song quite a bit, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be very interesting live. Everyone was kinda just standing there. It sounds like it has the potential to be built on live, but that almost feels like it defeats the purpose of the song.
It was better than I was expecting it to be, I like it but I don't love it, but I'm interested to see how it fits in to the context of the album, and with the songs before and after it. It's a weird start. Like, when I first heard Run I instantly loved it, so we'll see. 6/10.
I was wondering if it'll be an opener but it's not got that sort of build that's needed. It's a midset song probably just before the first encore sort of jam in my opinion. Let it Die was amazing live and should have been pushed over other tracks from that era. *Cough* Long Road To Ruin *cough*
Sooooo what's gonna happen on Friday the 13th then? I don't have the patience to try and find the chat because there's like 50 billion threads active at the moment BUT we kinda agreed that the first single would drop that day 🤔
The word that comes to mind is "space". I don't want to say it's a sparse arrangement, considering everything going on. But it's definitely unlike anything I've heard from them, really.
I actually think the chorus progression reminds me a bit of older stuff though, since it's a different key of what's played in the outro of But Honestly (and twice the speed) and the pre-chorus of Walking a Line.
There isn't a monster hook that grabs you hear, but I sort of dig the direction overall. I'm sure it'll grow on me more over time!
Taylor has said that the album is "filled with anthemic, huge, sing-along rock songs", so I am just wondering if Shame Shame is more of a complete teaser rather than the first actual "single" proper. Although I guess them performing it on SNL would certainly make it seem so.
Can’t wait for the first DJ to do a variation on “Hey, the single is called Shame Shame so, err, what are you embarrassed about?” in a softball attempt to get some kinda ‘guilty pleasure’ chat.
I like it - there’s a swagger to it that’s new. But after 25 years of awaiting new singles & albums I know not everything is gonna immediately connect with me like hearing the first play of Monkey Wrench on the Evening Session.
I said elsewhere - before the album comes out in February they’ll release a song that’s more “their” sound & everyone will move on.

I haven't heard it yet. Housemate has, when I asked what she thought, she pulled a face and declared it was probably a grower.
Would be a good opener... in the same way that LET IT DIE opened on the ESPAG tour. Start with Dave, and the band joins him during the song.

perhaps...music video.......or this horror film.......perhaps they're the same thing. Think 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson.
so the band are likely to dance like zombies to 'Shame Shame' essentially
Shit I forgot all about the potential horror film! It'll definitely be it then, I just decided
